In this part-time (3 day week) role, the Associate position offers an opportunity to gain diverse experience and to play a key role in a global company doing business with top-tier customers across the globe. The role will be required to draft and negotiate contracts. The Associate will need to think carefully and strategically, partner with the business and other teams within the Ascender Group of companies.

Responsibilities:
Key point of contact for our Japan team.
Advising on high-level regulatory matters.
Supporting the sales, business and operations team on day-to-day legal matters.
Liaising with and manage external counsel in Japan, where applicable
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial and technology agreements.
Collaborating with Ascender’s various internal customers (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Product, Finance, IT) on their legal and business issues.
Intra-group agreements.
External counsel agreements.
Corporate secretarial responsibilities.
Legal Research, Contract drafting and preparation.

Skills & Experience:
Strong legal academic credentials – Bachelor or Master in Law preferred.
Prior previous legal experience in a law firm or in-house.
Native in written and spoken Japanese.
Professional working proficiency in written and spoken English.
Experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
Exposure and understanding of both Common Law and Civil Law systems.
Must be a good team player, pleasant, detailed oriented, organised and self-motivated.
Fast learner, meticulous, process driven, able to work with minimum supervision and have high EQ.
Must possess strong drafting and writing skills in both English and Japanese.
